Mentorship
Program overview
The BUFC Mentorship Program prepares underclassmen for the competitive recruiting process across both sell-side and buy-side finance roles. Every sophomore in the club is enrolled, running concurrently with either the Investment Research or Investment Management track depending on whether they joined as a freshman or a sophomore. Over a structured ten-week fall program, mentees explore career paths, build out their application materials, practice interviews, and expand their networks through hands-on workshops and close guidance from mentors who bring firsthand, insider knowledge of the recruiting process. Beyond technical and networking preparation, the program places real emphasis on personal narrative, teaching students how to articulate their interests, strengths, and story in a way that resonates with recruiters and professionals alike.
MENTOR PAIRINGS
Each mentee is paired one-on-one with a mentor matched to their target recruiting path, weighing factors like location preference, group type, and individual circumstance. This assigned pairing is the backbone of accountability: mentors hold weekly check-ins, attend workshop sessions to help polish resumes and interview responses, and serve as a mentee's first point of contact for recruiting questions and career guidance throughout the semester.
Alongside that pairing, mentees also have access to an open mentor network for needs their assigned mentor may not specialize in. A full mentor directory, detailing each mentor's recruiting background and areas of specialized experience, lets students book time with whichever mentor best fits a given moment, whether that's a technical mock interview, a coffee chat run-through, or advice specific to a particular group or role.
Staying on track
To keep mentees accountable and give mentors real-time visibility into each person's progress, the program runs on two simple tools: a shared recruitment tracker and a weekly progress survey. Together, they let the mentorship team spot bottlenecks early and step in with individualized support before a mentee falls behind.
